Following the blockbuster return of MobLand on Paramount+ a few days ago, audiences seem to be hungry for more crime drama content featuring Tom Hardy. Fortunately, there's plenty for them to pick from. Fans have propelled a recent gangster movie starring Hardy into a major global hit on HBO Max. The movie underperformed at the box office in its initial run, despite having received excellent reviews. It now seems to be finally finding its audience on streaming, thanks to a leg-up from Hardy's massively popular crime drama series on Paramount+.
Having debuted in 2025, MobLand shattered records for Paramount+ and posed a major challenge to Yellowstone's dominion on the streamer. Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western had long remained the number-one title on Paramount+, and MobLand transposes similar tropes from the American countryside to contemporary London. The first season of MobLand received positive reviews, but the reception for Season 2 has been even stronger. Marketed on the strength of director Guy Ritchie's brand, the show's second season holds a "Certified Fresh" 86% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. MobLand, which also features Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, has already been renewed for a third season, with Hardy set to return.
Here's the Tom Hardy-Led Gangster Movie That's Finding a New Life on Streaming
The show's successful run seems to be driving audiences toward Hardy's 2024 gangster movie The Bikeriders. Directed by the acclaimed Jeff Nichols and also starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Mike Faist, and Michael Shannon, the movie received positive reviews upon release. It now holds a "Certified Fresh" 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, "Fueled by a charismatic cast and the gritty authenticity of writer-director Jeff Nichols' approach, The Bikeriders offers a conventional yet impactful look at motorcycle culture." Despite the positive reception, the movie grossed only around $35 million against a reported budget of $40 million — along with Caught Stealing, it was the second box-office underperformer starring Butler after the breakout success of Elvis. According to FlixPatrol, The Bikeriders was among the most-watched movies globally on HBO Max this week, when the leaderboard was topped by Supergirl. It outperformed Jennifer Lawrence's breakout movie Winter's Bone and the critically acclaimed Oscar-winner Hamnet.
