Few movies have spent quite as long waiting for a sequel as one particular cyberpunk epic produced by James Cameron. Seven years after its release, its devoted fanbase is still campaigning for another trip to Iron City, while Cameron and its director have repeatedly made it clear that they haven't forgotten about their plans to continue the story.

That movie is Alita: Battle Angel, and it's officially found another streaming home, as the Robert Rodriguez-directed sci-fi adventure officially joined Hulu in the United States on October 1. Cameron spent years developing Alita: Battle Angel before handing the reins to Rodriguez, resulting in a sprawling cyberpunk blockbuster that arrived in 2019, but that's now also finding new life on digital and streaming.

When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido, a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

Salazar (Undone) stars as Alita, alongside Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) as Dr. Dyson Ido, Jennifer Connelly (Top Gun: Maverick) as Chiren, Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) as Vector, Keean Johnson (Euphoria) as Hugo, Ed Skrein (Deadpool) as Zapan, Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as Grewishka, and Lana Condor (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) as Koyomi. Edward Norton (Fight Club) also makes an uncredited appearance as Nova.

How Good Is 'Alita: Battle Angel'?

Critics weren't completely sold on Iron City when Alita: Battle Angel arrived in 2019. The movie currently holds a 62% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, but that number tells only half the story. Fans responded much more enthusiastically, with the movie earning a 92% verified audience score, helping explain the increasingly vocal campaign for a sequel. Commercially, Alita was no small production. The movie earned approximately $404 million worldwide, including around $86 million domestically.

Alita: Battle Angel began streaming on Hulu in the United States on October 1.
