One of the most influential names in modern comedy, Oscar-nominated Steve Carell is the face of many people's favorite comfort shows, most notably as the lovable Michael Scott in The Office. Many years after his final surprise appearance in the show's finale, Carell is still appearing in plenty of comedic streaming favorites. After helping usher in a brilliant new comedy-drama, Netflix's The Four Seasons, before his character met an untimely demise, Carell moved to HBO to deliver a series that proved so instantly popular that it became their biggest comedy premiere in more than a decade, with 2.4 million U.S. cross-platform viewers in its first three days.
Carell is the veteran anchor who guides Rooster, alongside new talent Charly Clive. But there are many more famous faces involved in the series, including Ted Lasso breakout Phil Dunster, Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley, Lauren Tsai, Connie Britton, and Robby Hoffman. Hugely popular with audiences and the recipient of plenty of critical praise, it's no surprise that Rooster earned a second season renewal, with the next installment predicted to arrive sometime in 2027 after production began in August 2026.
As the wait for Rooster continues, what should you watch in the meantime? How about the most important movie in Carell's career, one that proved he could be a leading comedic face in Hollywood? Of course, we're talking about The 40-Year-Old Virgin, director Judd Apatow's breakout hit that told the surprisingly tender tale of one man's exploration of his sexuality later in life. Avengers: Doomsday's Paul Rudd, Jane Lynch, Catherine Keener, Elizabeth Banks, and more also star in this classic 2000s comedy, which you can officially stream on Starz starting this month.
