With a career spanning everything from action blockbusters to some of Hollywood's most unconventional roles, Nicolas Cage is arguably one of the most distinctive actors of his generation. The actor's career took an interesting turn this year when he played his first-ever series regular role on TV with Prime Video's Spider-Noir. While the Marvel series was shockingly canceled after just one season, Cage's performance as the Depression-era Spider-Man helped it earn 11 Emmy nominations and 5 wins. Now, as Cage continues to enjoy renewed attention, fans can look forward to revisiting one of his most beloved blockbusters in a whole new way.

More than two decades after its release, Cage's National Treasure is making a comeback with a new release that fans have been anticipating for years. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the 2004 adventure film stars Cage as Benjamin Franklin Gates, an eccentric but brilliant historian and treasure hunter who teams up with a tech expert and an archivist to embark on a dangerous search for the long-lost Templar Treasure. The film also stars Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, and Jon Voight. Despite receiving mixed critical reception, National Treasure was a major box-office success for Walt Disney Pictures, grossing approximately $348 million worldwide. It is Cage's second-highest-grossing film, surpassed only by its 2007 sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which earned roughly $459 million worldwide.

The original film is finally getting a long-overdue 4K restoration, giving fans a chance to revisit the beloved adventure with an upgraded presentation. As seen on Bluray.com, the physical release from Walt Disney Home Entertainment will arrive as a 4K UHD SteelBook two-disc combo set, featuring both 4K UHD and Blu-ray versions of the film with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio. The release will also include bonus features, including commentary from director Turteltaub and actor Bartha. Disney will officially bring the new edition to shelves on November 10.

'National Treasure 3' Is Happening

National Treasure's 4K upgrade feels like a fitting celebration for the adventure franchise, given that the long-awaited third installment has begun plotting its escape from development hell. Disney committed to a third National Treasure movie shortly after the release of the 2007 sequel, but progress repeatedly stalled, with the development of a suitable script proving to be one of the project's biggest hurdles. That has finally changed, however, as director Jon Turteltaub recently revealed that a script is now officially in place. The filmmaker also hinted that Cage could be on board to reprise his role as Ben Gates, though no formal casting announcements have been made for the potential sequel.

For now, fans will have to wait for Disney to reveal what's next for the franchise. As always, stay tuned for more updates.
