2026 has been a great year for movies so far, and it isn't slowing down anytime soon with only a few months left in the year. Two of the biggest movies of the year, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, both feature stars like Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal, but it doesn't take big stars to make a compelling feature film. Genres like action thrillers and historical epics may be what dominate the conversation year after year at the box office, but there was once a time when sports movies were the talk of the town, especially in sports towns like Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and LA. Whether it's boxing movies like Rocky, MMA thrillers like The Smashing Machine, or great football films like Remember the Titans, some of your favorite movies from years past may be centered around the sport you played growing up.

Those waiting for the next great sports movie don't have to wait long, either, as a new basketball film is coming to theaters nationwide this Friday. We're talking, of course, about Last Shot, the inspirational new drama starring Jaime Pressly opposite Michael Rappaport. Fans may recognize Pressly from her roles in My Name is Earl and Mom, while Rappaport is best known for his work in Higher Learning and Atypical. Before Last Shot debuts in theaters everywhere this weekend, Collider is thrilled to partner with Hemlock Circle to exclusively preview a new sneak peek at the film, which heavily features Pressly and another of her co-stars, Johnny Simmons. Two-time NBA all-star Baron Davis also features in a key role in Last Shot along with Dylan Friedman, who stars as Caden Isaacs.

What Is 'Last Shot' About?

Hemlock Circle's official synopsis for Last Shot, which was written by Todd Friedman, directed by Andy Palmer, and produced by Jaime Pressly, Warner Davis, Todd Friedman, Kelly Brown, reads as follows: "12-year-old basketball prodigy Caden Issacs navigates the turbulent waters of grief and adolescence after the sudden death of his father, Darren. Moving to Nashville to live with his estranged mother, Lexi, a driven music executive, Caden struggles to find his place on a new elite basketball team while grappling with the high expectations of those around him. Through intense rivalries, newfound friendships, and the relentless pursuit of excellence, Caden learns to process his pain and rediscover his passion for the game."
