Right now is an exciting time to be a James Bond fan, and the franchise officially returned today with one of its best releases in months. The last official James Bond movie came back in 2021 with Daniel Craig's swan song with the character in No Time to Die. Bond had been around for years before Craig, but he revolutionized the character in such a way that it makes it tough for whoever is going to follow in his footsteps as the next 007. There will inevitably be the next 007, too — Amazon is already hard at work on a new James Bond movie that's being written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Three). Very little is known about the film at this time, and it's way too early to predict when it could be released.
The only exciting things we know about the next James Bond movie at the time of writing are that it is going to be the next movie for Denis Villeneuve after Dune: Part Three, and casting has finally narrowed the potential list of the next 007 to a few candidates. Among those candidates are Jack Lowden, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson, but only time will tell who emerges victorious. For months now, the Bond movies have been absent from streaming after they spent much of the earlier part of 2026 on Prime Video. It was shocking when Amazon removed the films from its streaming library, considering it owns the rights to the character, but the studio has righted this wrong by making all James Bond movies once again available to watch on Prime Video as of today, October 1.
What's the Highest-Grossing James Bond Movie?
The highest-grossing James Bond movie in history is Skyfall, which earned a whopping $1.1 billion at the global box office. It's also the only Bond movie in history to gross over $1 billion globally, but Craig did come close a few times with Spectre and No Time to Die, which both earned over $750 million globally. With Dune's Denis Villeneuve behind the next 007 movie, it can safely be considered a major contender to take the crown from Skyfall as the highest-grossing Bond movie in history.
