During the 1970s, Al Pacino had established an extraordinary reputation through The Godfather, Serpico, The Godfather Part II, and Dog Day Afternoon. He followed those successes with Scarface in 1983, but his 1985 historical epic Revolution was a critical and commercial disappointment, and that made him change his focus toward theater and his own film projects. After nearly four years, though, he returned with this thriller, noir romantic drama that’s now available to stream on Prime Video starting October 1.

Basic Instinct, which was released roughly three years after it, did have the same soul, but it’s largely defined as an erotic thriller. Al Pacino’s return, however, belonged largely to this neo-noir, crime, and mystery genres. The film was able to rake in roughly $110.9 million against a budget of $19 million and still has a 76% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. Basic Instinct, on the other hand, had a substantially bigger theatrical run, raking in $353 million worldwide, but sits at a lower critical reception of 56% on RT.

The film is Sea of Love, and it was an amalgamation of who Al Pacino was as a stage actor and Broadway debutant before Francis Ford Coppola chose him to be Michael Corleone and the rugged characters that he played afterward. It’s now available to stream on Prime Video now starting October 1. The film is also available to rent or buy from Apple TV and Prime Video.

What Else Is Becoming Available to Stream on Prime Video in October

October 1 is practically a franchise takeover for Prime Video as part of the platform’s regular monthly programming. All four John Wick films arrive alongside a massive James Bond collection spanning Dr. No, GoldenEye, Casino Royale, Skyfall, and No Time to Die. Four Indiana Jones films are coming too, then there’s the complete Creed trilogy, six Rocky films, both Blade Runner movies, The Godfather trilogy and so much more. Since its spooky season, horror fans have an equally ridiculous selection, including but not limited to Hereditary, Midsommar, Pearl, X, MaXXXine, Candyman, and both Child's Play films.

But the arrivals aren’t just limited for the first date of the month and continue throughout October. The rest of the month brings but isn’t limited to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and all three seasons of Chucky landing on October 4. Mike Flanagan's new adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie premieres October 7, followed by Scream 7 on October 16, The Terminal List Season 2 on October 21, The Bride! on October 23, and Apocalypse Z: New World on October 30.
