2026 has quietly been a massive year for Tom Hardy, despite him only starring in one new project. The age-old saying goes something like “there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” and although Hardy came under the microscope earlier this year, it all worked out for the best. News broke earlier in the summer that Hardy had been fired from his role as Harry Da Souza in MobLand, but considering he had already filmed all of his Season 2 scenes, this firing wouldn’t take place until Season 3. This report has since been debunked and not only has Paramount confirmed that Hardy will return in Season 3, the studio has even renewed MobLand for Season 3 while Season 2 continues to dominate watchlists around the world.

For any actor who’s been starring in movies and TV shows as long as Tom Hardy, it’s only natural that some projects are going to be lost to time. One of said projects that most fans don’t remember from his filmography came all the way back in 2012 when he teamed up with Shia LaBeouf for Lawless, the R-rated true-crime thriller that grossed $55 million at the global box office against a $26 million budget. All these years after Lawless' theatrical run, the film hasn’t been a streaming juggernaut by any means, but it has found a home on one of the most underrated free streaming platforms, Pluto TV. The best part of Pluto TV is that it doesn’t even require an account or a membership to watch movies — fans can search up any film on the platform and press play for the cost of only a few ads.

What Is ‘Lawless’ About?

In addition to Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf, Lawless also stars Guy Pearce as Charley Rakes, Jason Clarke as Howard Bondurant, and Jessica Chastain as Maggie Beauford. The film is based on Matt Bondurant’s book, The Wettest County in the World, and Nick Cave wrote the script for the film with John Hillcoat directing. The official synopsis for Lawless, which earned solid scores of 67% from critics and 74% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:

“In 1931, the Bondurant brothers of Franklin County, Va., run a multipurpose backwoods establishment that hides their true business, bootlegging. Middle brother Forrest (Tom Hardy) is the brain of the operation; older Howard (Jason Clarke) is the brawn, and younger Jack (Shia LaBeouf), the lookout. Though the local police have taken bribes and left the brothers alone, a violent war erupts when a sadistic lawman (Guy Pearce) from Chicago arrives and tries to shut down the Bondurants operation.”
