Emilia Jones and Nick Robinson's Romance 'Charlie Harper' Hits Theaters This Weekend [Exclusive]

Task's Emilia Jones is young and in love in the Aughts in the new romantic drama Charlie Harper. After premiering at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, the film is set to make its debut in theaters nationwide this week. Before that, however, Collider is proud to exclusively present a preview sneak peek from the film, which will premiere tomorrow, September 25.

Charlie Harper is directed by Mac Eldridge and Tom Dean, both making their feature directorial debuts. The script is by Dean, who penned the well-received Samara Weaving thriller Carolina Caroline earlier this year. The film tells the non-linear love story of a young couple with big dreams as they meet, grow together, and then grow apart; it examines how two people can experience and remember their time together differently. It is distributed by Row K.

Our sneak peek takes us back to the year 2009, when America abounded with hope. Harper (Jones) and Charlie (Nick Robinson, A Teacher) are among those filled with that frontier spirit, as they uproot their old lives and journey together to the city of New Orleans, then rebuilding from the cataclysmic Hurricane Katrina. We see them moving into their ramshackle new accommodations via old camcorder footage, as they try to live out their dreams; she wants to be a chef, although she's just a server at a cheesy Cajun restaurant, and he's smart enough to do anything, even as he starts on the bottom rung in a blue-collar job. They had great plans for their future...but as Jones' narration says, that's not how it turned out. Jones can currently be seen in Tony, Matt Johnson's unconventional Anthony Bourdain biopic. She will next star in The 99'ers, a film centering around the United States' national women's soccer team at the 1999 World Cup, alongside Zoey Deutch and Emily Bader. Robinson can also be seen co-starring with Deutch in the Netflix romantic comedy Voicemails for Isabelle, which debuted on the streamer in June. Next, he'll play doomed Kennedy scion Joe Kennedy Jr. in the Netflix drama series Kennedy.
