The Best Dinosaur Movie Since 'Jurassic Park' Is Officially America's #1 Movie

Dinosaurs have been running around movie theaters for decades, but it's surprisingly difficult to escape the very large shadow cast by Jurassic Park. Turns out the trick might be forgetting about theme parks altogether and simply dropping the prehistoric monsters into an ordinary American neighborhood. Suddenly worrying about what the people next door are doing doesn't seem quite so important when there's a Spinosaurus outside.

Anne Hathaway (Interstellar) and Ewan McGregor (Star Wars) star in The End of Oak Street, which is officially America's No. 1 movie at home after topping the Apple TV Store's U.S. movie chart. David Robert Mitchell's (It Follows) sci-fi survival movie has now spent six days at No. 1, ahead of The Invite, Backrooms, and Tony, after arriving on digital platforms on September 15.

As for the plot, well, it follows a nice, ordinary family in 1982 who find themselves transported to the cretaceous period — alongside their entire neighborhood. What follows is the most bonkers survival thriller imaginable as the Platt family do their best to stay alive while running out of food, water and being hunted by literal dinosaurs.

The cast is led by Hathaway as Denise Platt and McGregor as Greg Platt, alongside Maisy Stella (My Old Ass) as Audrey Platt, Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth) as Brian Platt, Jordan Alexa Davis as Jeannette Christiansen, P.J. Byrne (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Mel Jacobs, Chris Coy (The Deuce), and Emily Kuroda (Gilmore Girls) as Mrs. Valcourt.

How Good Is 'The End of Oak Street'?

The movie currently holds an excellent 86% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes from 335 reviews, alongside a 76% verified audience score. The site's critical consensus praises it as an old-fashioned creature feature that delivers plenty of pulpy fun without overcomplicating things. Hathaway and McGregor give it their all, too, while all you can say about the dinosaurs is whoever trained them did a great job. Well done, animal trainers!

J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) produced the movie alongside Mitchell, Hannah Minghella, Jon Cohen, Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper, while Michael Giacchino (The Batman) composed the score. Warner Bros. also shot the movie for IMAX, which makes sense when your primary selling point involves putting extremely large prehistoric animals next to comparatively tiny people.
