Tom Holland is having a strong year at the box office with two back-to-back blockbusters, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and his latest superhero feature, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The fourth installment in the MCU franchise is nostalgic, watching him grow from a young teenager trying to help Mr. Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to an adult man who makes the ultimate sacrifice and lives with the consequences in the latest installment. In The Odyssey, he plays Odysseus' (Matt Damon) son, who desperately searches for his father, and he earned applause for a compelling performance.
Over the years, Holland has amassed millions of fans worldwide owing to his superhero career. With features like The Odyssey, Cherry, The Impossible, and more, he is steadily expanding his audience base. While his Spider-Man stint is still rife with upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, certainly including the web-slinger in the roster, he's also doing features like Jason Bateman-directed drama The Partner and Paul King's Untitled Fred Astaire Biopic alongside Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter. So while Holland is busy making movies, fans are revisiting some underrated gems in his filmography.
The movie in question is the video game adaptation, Uncharted. It showcases the origin story of street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Holland), who is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless antagonist Moncada (Antonio Banderas). The Ruben Fleischer-directed film was a box office success, earning $407.1 million worldwide against a $120 million budget. But it garnered mixed reviews from critics and fans of the original games. The divide is reflected in the movie's Rotten Tomatoes scores: a 41% rating by critics and an 89% rating by audiences. The latter outweighs the critical consensus, as the film keeps reappearing on streaming charts.
'Uncharted' Is Conquering the World on Streaming
Uncharted has nabbed a spot in HBO Max's global top 10 charts, according to FlixPatrol. It stands tall among features like Steven Soderbergh's Contagion, horror season favorites like Sébastien Vaniček's Evil Dead Burn, James Watkins' Speak No Evil, Jonathan Demme's classic The Silence of the Lambs, and more. This isn't the first time Uncharted has appeared on streaming charts as it seems to be a seasonal favorite of fans. While the feature garnered mixed reviews at the box office, its streaming longevity spells a different kind of success story.
