Sebastian Stan Drops "Heartbreaking" 'Avengers: Doomsday' Update

It is now just over two months until Doomsday strikes and the world takes its seat for the biggest theatrical event in recent memory. Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three (a partnership lovingly dubbed 'Dunesday') both debut in theaters on December 18, 2026, and it is predicted to be one of the highest-grossing days of all time. Between the two films, it seems no Hollywood actor has been left out, with Doomsday doing most of the heavy lifting.

Robert Downey Jr. is the most headline-grabbing of the cast, as he returns to the MCU in a new role as Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man. Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, and more join the new Fantastic Four (Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Pedro Pascal) and some original X-Men in a stacked cast that is bursting at the seams with talent. Among them is Sebastian Stan, who is returning following 2025's Thunderbolts* as Bucky Barnes in Doomsday.

In a recent interview with Decider, Stan admitted that he hadn't "seen the movie, and I don't know how it turned out." But as a contributor to the film, he is sure to have some idea about what happens in a potential plot that has the whole of social media speculating. "I'm sure it's going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways," Stan teased, even hinting that some major characters might meet their demise: "We'll see who makes it to the next level."

For Doomsday, as he mentioned in the interview, Stan got to "reunite with everyone" on the set for the film, adding, "It was very nostalgic to look back and think about all of these years that we've known each other and grew up together. It's incredible in that way. It's been a family, and it never stops being that way."

Sebastian Stan Is One of the Best Actors Working Today

Stan is without doubt one of the best actors of his generation, as was evident in the past few entries in his filmography. By taking the controversial role of Donald Trump in the biopic The Apprentice, he arguably risked his career, only for critics and fans to call it one of his best performances. This was followed by an awards-worthy starring turn in the 2025 gem A Different Man. Stan also stars in a huge Oscar contender for next year, Fjord, which has been selected as the Romanian entry for the Best International Feature Film.
