The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is set to hit theaters, and then Netflix, this fall. It's the first-ever sequel to a Quentin Tarantino-directed film, but Tarantino himself won't be directing it. However, he does have his own version of the sequel coming out this holiday season.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is a sequel to 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, following Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), a one-time stuntman (and possible murderer) turned jack-of-all-trades. He was the longtime friend, driver, and handyman for fading star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) in that movie, but in the new movie he's gone solo. The film features a script by Tarantino, but is not directed by him; a first for the film-maker since longtime friend and collaborator Robert Rodriguez helmed From Dusk Till Dawn from Tarantino's script in 1996. Instead, directorial duties will be handled by David Fincher.
However, if you want Tarantino's full vision for the future of Cliff Booth, look no further than your favorite bookstore. Variety reports that The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a new novel by Tarantino, will be released by HarperCollins on December 8; note the title, which differs slightly from that of the film. The release date means that it will come out after the limited theatrical release of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, but before it hits Netflix on December 23. The plot of both book and movie have been kept under wraps, but the book's logline offers a slight hint: taking place in Hollywood in 1977, "the Swinging Sixties are long gone — but Clifford Booth keeps on keeping on…War hero, stuntman, bartender, cinema projectionist…with the occasional "clandestine services" for his friends..."
What Other Books Has Quentin Tarantino Written?
Tarantino has been quite busy on the literary front in recent years. In 2021, he published his debut novel, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel. An homage to the bygone era of movie novelizations, the book is "a complete rethinking of the whole story" and expands on the characters and their backstories. Tarantino published his first non-fiction book, Cinema Speculation, in 2022; the book chronicles the movie-viewing experiences of his early years, focusing on titles that would influence his directorial career, including Bullitt, Taxi Driver, and Rolling Thunder.
