This summer, provocateur auteur Gregg Araki returned to the big screen with I Want Your Sex, an exploration of modern sexual morals. After premiering in theaters in July, it's now available on 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital. If you don't want to go all the way sight unseen, Collider is proud to exclusively present a little foreplay in the form of a preview clip from the film, featuring stars Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman.
The movie stars Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) as Elliot Bell, an unemployed Zoomer schlub with an uptight girlfriend (Charli XCX, The Moment) who needs to start chipping in the rent to roomie Apple (Chase Sui Wonders, Bodies Bodies Bodies). He finds a job as an assistant to avant-garde artist Erika Tracy (Wilde) alongside Zap (Mason Gooding, Scream). The submissive Elliot soon finds himself drawn to the domineering Erika, and the two soon become entangled in a psychosexual relationship that threatens to destroy both of them. In addition to directing, Araki also co-wrote the script with Karley Sciortino; the two previously worked on the TV series Now Apocalypse.
In the clip, the two discuss their attitudes towards sex, as well as those of their respective generations. Zoomer Elliot is neurotic and nervous about consent and sex, and tends to avoid it; he explains that his generation's mentors tried to keep them from discomfort. Erika, a millennial, has a much more libertine attitude, and wants Elliot to simply enjoy himself, as he's in the prime of his life; she thinks that getting out of one's comfort zone is of paramount importance. She's a little shocked by his generation's preference for porn and video games—and he's a little overwhelmed by his fantasies about her.
What Are the Critics Saying About 'I Want Your Sex'?
The movie earned rave reviews from critics, garnering a 92% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, Collider's Ross Bonaime deemed it "an essential sex comedy for this current generation," and praised it for the way it "finds just the right blend of ideas and tones to make this story work, becoming both hilarious and shockingly touching in its approach to sex in the modern age."
