The past couple of months at the box office have been dominated by two titles, both featuring the trio of Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, and Zendaya. Christopher Nolan's latest masterpiece, The Odyssey, which was called an "unrivaled cinematic spectacle" in Joe Schmidt's review for Collider, is currently the favorite to sweep up at the Academy Awards in early 2027. In fact, some suspect it might even break the nominations record set just this year by Ryan Coogler's awe-inspiring vampire horror musical, Sinners.

But the $1.7 billion earned by The Odyssey simply pales in comparison to the other Holland, Zendaya, and Bernthal movie, one that has no doubt defined this summer's box office. Of course, we're talking about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the last MCU stop before Avengers: Doomsday on December 18. The film has broken countless records, including becoming the highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history and earning the biggest opening weekend ever, eventually resting at over $2.5 billion worldwide.

But these big box office headline snatchers shouldn't distract from the other, smaller wins in theaters this summer. One such win was by Coyote vs. Acme, which turned an initial $70 million production into $101 million worldwide. These might seem like flop-friendly figures, but the film was dropped by Warner Bros. and had to be saved in a $50 million deal by Ketchup Entertainment. So, despite being deemed worthy of being put on the shelf and fans fearing the film may never see the light of day, Coyote vs. Acme's $100 million haul, which included a second place opening weekend finish, is worth celebrating.

The 'Coyote vs. Acme' Success Doesn't Stop There

Following its strong box office run against the odds, Coyote vs. Acme has now made its way to streaming, and the success hasn't stopped yet. At the time of writing, the animated movie featuring the likes of Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor is the most-watched title on the Apple TV Store in the U.S. It is also #1 in Canada and #9 in the UK. Dave Green of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows fame directed the film.
