Jason Statham is one of the biggest action stars in the world, and his most successful movie of the 2020s is quietly steamrolling its competitors on streaming. Statham has a few roles, like Deckard Shaw and Frank Martin, that he’s best known for, but in recent years, he’s sticking to mostly original action movies, and the track record isn’t quite as strong as some of his franchise work. Statham is expected to return as Deckard Shaw in the eleventh and final Fast & Furious movie, which is allegedly coming to theaters in 2028, but the film has many hurdles to overcome before it’s ready to be released. The action star has had to overcome a few hurdles himself so far this year, as his only two movies of 2026, Shelter and Mutiny, both bombed at the box office.
Jason Statham may have had a rough go at things at the box office this year, but it wasn’t long ago that he starred in one of the most successful movies of his entire career. Last year, Statham worked with director David Ayer (Heart of the Beast) on A Working Man, which grossed $80 million at the box office against a $40 million budget. The year before A Working Man, Statham and Ayer collaborated on the criminally underrated actioner, The Beekeeper, which cashed in a whopping $160 million at the global box office. Not only was The Beekeeper a financial success, but the movie has also been crushing expectations on streaming for over two years now on various platforms. The Beekeeper, which is currently streaming exclusively on Prime Video, has been in the top 10 for over 200 days now.
What Do We Know About ‘The Beekeeper 2’?
Much earlier in the year, it was expected that The Beekeeper 2 was coming to theaters before the end of this year, but it has since been confirmed that the film will not be released until January 15, 2027. Statham is returning to reprise his role as Adam Clay in The Beekeeper 2, but the ensemble cast around him is going to look a little different in the sequel. Jeremy Irons is returning as Wallace Westwyld, with new stars such as Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland joining the fun in the sequel. David Ayer did not return to direct — Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2) was enlisted to direct The Beekeeper 2.
