Jack Quaid's Best Action Movie Is Officially Dominating Streaming Right Now

Netflix has released dozens of successful originals already in 2026, but where the streamer continues to excel is its eye for older movies and TV shows from other studios that have been discarded, just waiting to find a new audience. The perfect example of this came earlier in the summer when Netflix added all five seasons of the Michael Bay-produced sci-fi series, The Last Ship, which originally aired on TNT. The show has been absent from any major streaming platform since it went off the air in 2018, but it scored over one billion minutes watched during its initial viewing period on Netflix. One quick peek at the top of Netflix streaming charts, and you'll see that the platform has also given new life to the forgotten Jon Bernthal thriller, Those Who Wish Me Dead, which was written and directed by Taylor Sheridan.

Another more recent movie that flew somewhat under the radar when it was released last year is Novocaine, the action thriller starring Jack Quaid, who is best known for his role as Hughie in The Boys. Novocaine was dumped in theaters in January 2025, and the film grossed $34 million at the box office — not bad, but the style certainly would have liked to see a little more return on its $18 million production investment. In America, Novocaine has been streaming on Paramount Plus since the end of its theatrical run, and the film is also streaming on both Prime Video and MGM+. However, Novocaine was recently added to Netflix's international library, and the film jumped into the top 10 in more than 15 countries around the world, and it's still climbing.

The official synopsis for Novocaine, which earned scores of 81% from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows: “When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.” Fans may recognize Amber Midthunder from her role in the 2022 breakout sci-fi film, Prey. Novocaine is perfect for fans of both John Wick and Crank, as it features some intense hand-to-hand combat, but it's also set against the backdrop of a wacky premise, like Jason Statham having to jump-start his heart to keep himself alive.
