After headlining one of the most expensive Netflix original movies of all time, Red Notice, and watching her career-defining Wonder Woman franchise be retooled before her eyes, Gal Gadot took her business to Prime Video recently. Her first project for the streamer is an action-thriller movie that debuted a few weeks ago and received abysmal reviews. The negative reception appears to have impacted the film's performance, with the latest edition of the Nielsen report revealing surprising details. Nielsen publishes weekly viewership data for the streaming industry, but releases it with a month-long delay. This is why Gadot's Prime Video thriller is making its first appearance in the report now, after having premiered on the platform on September 2.
We're talking, of course, about The Runner, not to be confused with the action movie Runner, which debuted theatrically on September 11. Gadot's film features her as a mother whose son is kidnapped by a mysterious stranger. The man calls her on the phone and tells her that she will only be able to rescue her son if she runs from one location to another across London. The Runner combines the parent-child dynamic of Taken with the high-concept premise of movies such as Speed and Phone Booth. However, while each of those titles was well-received by audiences and critics, The Runner has come up short on both fronts.
