After more than a decade working exclusively on Netflix projects, David Fincher is set to make his theatrical comeback. Nobody would have seen this coming a decade ago — or even as recently as last year — but Fincher's theatrical return vehicle is a Netflix original. The streamer has changed its tune about releasing movies on the big screen after doubling down on an anti-theater stance in recent years. In early 2027, the streamer will give Greta Gerwig's big-budget Narnia: The Magician's Nephew a full-fledged rollout in cinemas. But first, it will release Fincher's upcoming The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth exclusively in IMAX theaters.

The movie serves as a spin-off of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Quentin Tarantino writing the script and Brad Pitt returning as the suave stunt performer. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is slated for an IMAX release in November, before it debuts on Netflix in December. Fincher's fans have plenty to choose from on Netflix, given that the filmmaker has worked on two movies and a host of shows for the streamer. However, Netflix is removing Fincher's highest-grossing hit from the service in the run-up to the release of his new film.
