
Charged water droplets may corrode metals beneath protective coatings
Water droplets can pick up electrical charge by sliding and transfer it to materials with the right electrical properties, including metals, eventually driving corrosion even under a protective coating, researchers report August 26 in Nature. The effect may be widespread.
