Director Zack Snyder's self-described indie project, The Last Photograph, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to career-worst reviews recently. For anyone who has seen the filmmaker's two-part Rebel Moon series on Netflix, this may seem like an exaggeration. However, the movie in question has predominantly received half-star ratings on the film-review app Letterboxd, with many viewers describing it as one of the worst experiences of their film-going lives. "Apocalypse No," wrote one person, pithily recalling pre-release claims that The Last Photograph is Snyder's Apocalypse Now.

The film follows an ex-DEA officer who teams up with a war photographer to locate missing family members. Snyder has described the movie as a passion project; it was first set up around 15 years ago with Christian Bale and Sean Penn playing the lead roles. However, as Snyder's stock plummeted at Warner Bros., the project fell by the wayside until he secured private funding and decided to get his hands dirty. Snyder served as his own cinematographer on the movie, which was filmed on location around South America with a small crew. The hard work wasn't appreciated by audiences who caught the film at TIFF.
