The most-watched movie at the box office last weekend has been called, by some, the worst film of 2026. The film in question is Rob Savage's Other Mommy, which debuted to an impressive $27.8 million domestic haul, placing it at the top of the charts. However, despite such a strong start to theatrical life for the new horror led by Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain, critics have been particularly scathing in their response.
The film has earned just 15% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, one of the worst scores of the year, with ScreenRant's Josh Bate criticizing the film for horror elements that "fall completely flat" in his 4/10 in his review. Other Mommy might fall far short of high horror expectations, but it is a masterpiece in comparison to a film that some consider the worst not just of its year, but of the decade so far.
We're talking about War of the Worlds, a 2025 adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel from 1898, which was directed by Rich Lee. The owner of an abysmal 4% Rotten Tomatoes score, this utterly misguided adaptation stars several eye-catching names, including Ice Cube (The High Note), Clark Gregg (Murderbot), Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), Iman Benson (The Midnight Club), Michael O'Neill (Dallas Buyers Club), and Andrea Savage (Tulsa King). But with such poor reviews comes widespread morbid curiosity, which has helped War of the Worlds return to the streaming charts. At the time of writing, the 2025 adaptation is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Peacock in the U.S.
What's the Most-Watched Movie on Peacock?
War of the Worlds might be a surprise addition to the current Peacock top ten, but what is the film at the top of the list? That accolade goes to one of the most high-profile arrivals on the streamer this month, Disclosure Day. The latest sci-fi tale from Steven Spielberg failed to make the desired impact both critically and commercially earlier this year. But the veteran director and stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, and Colin Firth are proving too enticing for Peacock subscribers, with the film the most-watched on the platform following its October 9 arrival.
