Nearly 18 years after Kristen Stewart first arrived in Forks as Bella Swan, Twilight still has an audience willing to follow her into the woods. Catherine Hardwicke’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel introduced Stewart’s Bella Swan to Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen, setting up a romance that would carry five movies. The sequels expanded their supernatural world, but the first movie remains a particularly atmospheric watch for October.
There is something especially fitting about revisiting its rain-soaked setting as Halloween approaches. Edward’s attempts to resist Bella’s blood give their courtship an underlying threat long before another vampire makes her their target. Even with its familiar dialogue and much-discussed baseball sequence, the movie finds room for genuine menace, particularly when Bella encounters someone with no interest in protecting her.
With Halloween just one week away, Twilight remains a hit on Netflix in the United States. The movie placed No. 6 on Netflix’s official U.S. movie chart for October 12–18, marking its seventh total appearance on the weekly list. It also held the No. 7 spot on the U.S. daily chart on October 23, according to FlixPatrol’s rankings archived by StreamScope. Those placements extend the movie’s October streaming success as viewers head into the final stretch before Halloween. The renewed attention follows the entire saga’s return to Netflix on October 1. All five movies arrived together, allowing U.S. subscribers to continue directly into New Moon after finishing the original. For anyone planning a full Twilight marathon, that also means the story is available through both parts of Breaking Dawn.
‘Twilight’ Still Has More Stories Coming to Netflix
The original movie's appeal owes plenty to Hardwicke’s approach to the material. Her version of Forks feels damp and isolated, making Bella’s fascination with the Cullen family easier to understand. Stewart and Pattinson give their scenes an awkward intensity that suits two people struggling to make sense of an attraction neither can comfortably explain. It also helps that the first movie keeps its central danger personal. Before the saga moves into larger conflicts between vampire factions, Bella is a teenager discovering that the person she wants to be closest to could kill her. The confrontation with James gives that fear a physical form, bringing the romance into a more direct survival story.
Netflix’s relationship with the franchise also extends beyond hosting the movies. The streamer ordered an animated adaptation of Midnight Sun, Meyer’s companion novel that revisits the first book from Edward’s perspective. Casting developments reported earlier this year offered another sign of progress on the project, which will return to the beginning of Bella and Edward’s relationship through a different character’s eyes. For now, the original movie is giving Netflix subscribers another reason to revisit Forks. Its continued chart presence puts a familiar vampire romance among the service’s most-watched movies as October draws to a close.
Twilight and its four sequels are streaming on Netflix in the United States.
