In George and Tammy, Jessica Chastain starred and sang as real-life country legend Tammy Wynette. Now, she's playing a fictional country singer who finds herself in a deadly Nashville mystery in the first trailer for Heartland. The new thriller film hits Netflix next month, and Chastain doesn't just star in it: she's also on the film's soundtrack. You can hear her yourself on "Heartland," the movie's title track. The movie and the soundtrack will both be released on November 13.

In the trailer, Chastain is Misty Jones; once, she was one of Nashville's biggest stars, but she's been away from the limelight, and away from the Music City, for twenty years. Now she's back, and it's not to play the Grand Ole Opry: she's on the trail of her niece, a rising country star herself, who's disappeared into the seamy underbelly of the city. She soon learns that no matter how much she thinks she's cleaned the Nashville dust off her boots, her past isn't far behind her...and that there are some very powerful people who want to ensure that her niece is never found.

Chastain will perform in-character as Misty Jones, Nashville's onetime "Queen of Mean"; she duets with Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones), who also stars in the film, on "Heartland." Ross Lynch (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and CMA Award-nominee Carter Faith, who makes her acting debut in the film, will also feature on the soundtrack, as will musicians Margo Price, Carly Pearce, Eddy Dunlap, Channing Wilson and Dave "Fergie" Ferguson.

What Other Creatives Are Behind 'Heartland'?

In addition to Chastain, Nettles, Lynch, and Faith, Heartland also stars Garrett Hedlund (Tulsa King), Paul Sparks (Physical), John Hawkes (Deadwood), Hill Harper (The Good Doctor), Norbert Leo Butz (A Complete Unknown), Wynn Everett (Chad Powers), Isabelle Kusman (His & Hers), and David Rysdahl (Alien: Earth). It is written and directed by Shana Feste (Run Sweetheart Run); this isn't her first deep dive into the world of country music, as she previously helmed and penned the Gwyneth Paltrow drama Country Strong. It is produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Randall Poster, and Jason Owen, and executive produced by Tracey Cook and Jeff Valeri.
