There was a time when Tom Cruise could experiment with his career choices and still come out unscathed. In fact, on two memorable occasions in the early 2000s, he thrived. But times have changed, and audiences aren't as receptive to bold experiments such as Digger any longer. Directed by the two-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the political satire is projected to become one of the biggest bombs in history, with estimated losses pegged at around $250 million. It's Cruise's biggest flop since Paul Thomas Anderson's epic drama Magnolia, which made less than $50 million against a reported budget of $37 million. However, Cruise experienced success some years later with Collateral, the neo-noir thriller in which he played a villainous role; it grossed around $220 million worldwide. Now, another of Cruise's hit experiments is streaming on Peacock in the United States, but only for a little while longer.

The movie in question will be removed from the streamer, along with Collateral, at the end of this month. Released in 2001, the film was directed by Cameron Crowe — it served as a reunion between Cruise and Crowe following their blockbuster 1996 movie Jerry Maguire, which grossed nearly $275 million worldwide. Crowe had previously delivered a trio of acclaimed hits in his career, including the coming of age movies Say Anything..., Almost Famous, and Singles. The 2001 release — a psychological romantic thriller with sci-fi overtones — was a major creative leap not only for Cruise, but also for Crowe.
