Best known for his work writing shows like Yellowstone and movies like Sicario, Taylor Sheridan has quietly established himself as one of Hollywood’s biggest forces to be reckoned with. Just this year, Sheridan has released new seasons of some of his popular shows, like Lioness, the hit spy thriller starring Zoe Saldaña and Michael Kelly. Kelly is also confirmed to migrate to another one of Sheridan’s popular shows to emerge in the last few years, Landman, which is returning next year for Season 3. It was once thought that Landman Season 3 would premiere before the end of this year, keeping with a similar timeline as the first two seasons, but several delays led to the show being pushed back to next year as production was only just able to begin in the last month or so.
Despite all of Sheridan’s many new shows that have been released in the last few years, the legendary Western scribe still knows where his bread is buttered. The Yellowstone universe continues to expand under his watchful producing eye at Paramount with new shows like Marshals and, of course, Dutton Ranch. The first season of Marshals aired on CBS earlier this year, and in true network TV fashion, it’s already off and running for Season 2 in the same year. The same can’t be said for Dutton Ranch, though, which aired earlier this year and was even renewed, but it’s unclear at this time when the show will return to streaming. One thing is certain, though: Dutton Ranch is not returning before the end of 2026, otherwise marketing for the show would have already resumed by now.
What Is ‘Dutton Ranch’ About?
The first season of Dutton Ranch was written and showrun by Chad Feehan, who has since been dismissed and replaced by Benjamin Cavell going forward into Season 2. The show stars Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, as well as Finn Little as Carter and Jai Courtney as Rob-Will. The official synopsis for the first season of Dutton Ranch, which earned strong marks of 90% from critics and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:
“Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton gamble everything on a new life in South Texas, but the promise of building a future far from the ghosts of Yellowstone quickly collides with new realities and a rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire.”
