Sydney Sweeney's $400 Million Thriller Officially Sets Its New Streaming Home

Although she is never far from controversy, there's no denying the popularity of Sydney Sweeney. One of the most talked-about actors of the past couple of years, Sweeney is rarely away from the headlines. Following her spotlight-stealing role in Euphoria's third season, Sweeney has a lot on her slate, including a new Netflix adaptation inspired by the popular Japanese Gundam animated series, alongside Harry Potter's Jason Isaacs, Noah Centineo, Nonso Anozie, Shioli Kutsuna, and Michael Mando.

Not only that, but Sweeney is attached to star in and produce Hollow, which is a new interpretation of the same source material that delivered Tim Burton's gothic horror Sleepy Hollow in 1999. The film will be based on the debut novel by filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer, a feminist reimagining of Washington Irving's 1820 short story, which is set to hit shelves at the same time as the movie in Fall 2027. This will be a busy period for Sweeney, as she reprises one of her more popular recent performances in December 2027.

Sweeney's Millie will be back for a second helping of psychological thrills in The Housemaid's Secret, which is slated for a December 17, 2027, release, following the enormous success of The Housemaid late last year. An adaptation of Freida McFadden's sequel novel, The Housemaid's Secret will be directed by Paul Feig and written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, with Paul Anthony Kelly, Kirsten Dunst, and now The Hunting Wives favorite Brittany Snow joining Sweeney in the cast. As anticipation for the sequel builds, last year's surprise smash hit is officially moving to streaming. Starting October 9, you will be able to stream The Housemaid on HBO Max.

Although The Housemaid had its detractors, most fans of the bestselling novel were appreciative of this chaotic adaptation. Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar proved perfect castings, and strong word of mouth and viral appeal helped the film maintain an impressive theatrical run. In total, The Housemaid earned $400 million in global box office revenue against a reported production budget of just $35 million, becoming one of the biggest unlikely hits at the tail end of 2025.
