‘Stranger Things’ Producer Shawn Levy Becomes Latest Filmmaker to Leave Netflix

Right now on Prime Video, the most-watched movie in America is The Love Hypothesis. Following the unorthodox romance between Olive (Lili Reinhart) and Professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman), the film ticks all the rom-com boxes, including featuring a strong supporting cast that boasts Rachel Marsh as Ahn, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy, Jaboukie Young-White, and Arty Froushan. So successful was this adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's novel that the biggest streamer in the world has now acquired her next adaptation.

Deep End, which was first published back in 2025, is the next Hazelwood novel on the small-screen production line, with Laura Kosann on board to pen the script. The adaptation has added a big name in the producing department in the form of Shawn Levy, who is set to add this to his array of projects for Netflix since his tenure at the streamer began in 2017. However, new reports suggest that this might be one of the very last projects Levy tackles for Netflix, as he and his production company, 21 Laps Entertainment, begin developing and producing projects at Disney, starting in October 2027.

Although he has worked on countless projects for Netflix, Levy's name attached to the Disney brand is nothing new. Two of the company's biggest upcoming movies are directed by Levy, with the first being the next installment in the iconic Star Wars franchise. The upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter will see the man behind the record-breaking Deadpool and Wolverine tackle an ambitious story in the stars, led by Project Hail Mary's Ryan Gosling. Gosling will also star in Levy's Ghost Rider film, an MCU project announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

Who Else Will Appear in 'Star Wars: Starfighter'?

Gosling isn't the only big-name star attached to Starfighter. The movie also stars Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, and Amy Adams. The film is set five years after the events of the film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will be a standalone story in a new era in a galaxy far, far away, scheduled for theatrical release on May 28, 2027.
