Steven Knight Confirms James Bond Reboot Script Is Complete

Since Daniel Craig made his final appearance as James Bond in No Time to Die in 2021, fans of the long-running action franchise have waited for the next installment. Five years later, they are still waiting. But screenwriter Steven Knight has offered an encouraging update on the film's progress, suggesting there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Knight is best known as the creator of the TV series Peaky Blinders and House of Guinness. He is also no stranger to the big screen, having written the scripts for Eastern Promises, Pawn Sacrifice, Spencer and more. Recently, he wrote the script for the rock documentary Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger; the film, centered on the reunion of the fractious Gallagher brothers of the band Oasis, is now playing in select theaters.

Now, as he related to Zoe Ball on the UK's Greatest Hits Radio, Knight indicates the script is finished. At the moment, however, all other details about the film remain for the filmmakers' eyes only, including the much-anticipated announcement of the actor who will take on the mantle of the UK's premier super-spy. He thoroughly enjoyed the process, saying, "I’m absolutely loving doing it. It’s an honor to be asked. And believe it’s going to be so good. I really do believe it’s going to be amazing." In an earlier interview, Knight indicated he may have been privy to the casting news during the writing process, stating, "It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor."

What Do We Know About Bond 26?

We may not know who is playing Bond, but we know who will send him on his first mission. Denis Villeneuve, fresh off the epic Dune trilogy, will helm the film. It is Bond's first mission under new management, as Eon Productions, the company that controlled Bond's big-screen destiny since Dr. No in 1962, sold the property to Amazon MGM Studios. The Broccoli family, first under Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and later under his children Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, shepherded the franchise for fifty years before selling control to longtime production partner MGM, now an arm of the Amazon octopus.
