Sometimes, in the long list of Marvel and DC characters, it’s the characters that become more popular than the franchise itself, like Superman or Batman. Many fans across the globe recognize DC because of the characters. Similarly, The Avengers are better known than the MCU, and probably the most recognizable character in the superhero genre is Spider-Man.

The character has changed so many faces, but still stays relevant for many, just like James Bond or Indiana Jones. Somehow, a third movie in the previous Spider-Man franchise led by Andrew Garfield never came to fruition. So, when Tom Holland was introduced in the MCU via Captain America: Civil War, fans were happy to know a new franchise is coming. And it’s a good one. Holland’s Peter Parker has carved its own place in pop culture. With the Home trilogy, MCU struck gold, as fans followed Peter on a journey unlike any other. Stakes went really high with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought together Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Garfield in one frame in a multiversal story. So everyone was wondering how the next movie would top that achievement. And top it did.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out earlier this year and had an otherworldly reception. Fans were eager to see how Peter’s life fares after the events of No Way Home, and director Destin Daniel Cretton brought the right sensibilities to bring that story to life. We follow an adult Peter Parker, who lives a life of radical, self-imposed isolation. Because the spell erased the world's memory of his identity, he focuses entirely on being a full-time Spider-Man. Things take a turn when he faces a mysterious new threat: a telepathic villain capable of body-hopping and mind-control.

Cretton brought a grounded, mature shift to the character and touched upon the themes of the burden of adulthood and isolation that turn into a mutation in Peter. As he transitions from a teenager, we find Peter as a self-reliant, gritty, street-level hero dealing with tactile, realistic hardships. The themes, performances, and Cretton’s vision made Brand New Day a record-breaking box office juggernaut, comfortably tracking as the highest-grossing film of 2026, having earned over $2.5 billion at the box office.

Spider-Man Swings to the Top of Streaming Charts

The movie is now available on Prime Video to rent or purchase, and it has already grabbed the top spot. Spider-Man: Brand New Day tops Amazon’s global top 10 charts, according to FlixPatrol. It stands tall among features like Obsession, Disclosure Day, The End of Oak Street, and more.
