There are people who would celebrate Christmas all year long if they could, and that's exactly what happens in the twisted new holiday thriller Christmas at the Kringles. A family moves from the city to a new neighborhood and discovers their neighbors celebrate the holiday every day of the year. The problem comes when things take a sinister turn, and the family has to fight back against the holiday spirit. To mark the film's October 30 release, Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive sneak peek from Christmas at the Kringles.
Starring Ron Livingston, Rachel Bilson, Donald Faison, Rob Riggle, Tom Lennon, and more, the film mixes a lot of comedy powerhouses with the horror elements present in the film's trailer. Directed by Kevin Lewis, there is a lot to enjoy about this upcoming horror release. Including Christmas film legend Beverly D'Angelo starring as Mama Kringle! Christmas at the Kringles is described as follows: "The Severson family move to a suburban neighborhood where their neighbors, the Kringles, celebrate Christmas year-round and harbor sinister intentions to hypnotize and indoctrinate them."
Our exclusive sneak peek shows Mark (Livingston) and Julie (Bilson) talking to their new neighbor, Daryl (Faison). In the brief interaction they have with Daryl, they learn a lot about his life and how he also used to live in the city — and how his wife left him after having an affair, what happened to their belongings, and what happens when you don't sign a prenup. There aren't any answers to whatever questions might be there about their neighbors obsessed with the holidays, but at least the Seversons do know Daryl's entire story. The sneak peek also serves as a nice Scrubs nod.
Not Your Average Christmas Movie
Even though celebrating the Christmas season in October is taboo, the film is a blend of both Halloween and Christmas with its horror elements. More than that, people have been searching for and celebrating holiday films that are less about the good feel of the season and more about mixing genres. Movies like Violent Night helped bring action back into Christmas-inspired films; we've had other horror/holiday movies like Silent Night, Deadly Night, Terrifier 3, and more. Adding Christmas at the Kringles to that list is going to be a fun time for all fans of Christmas, especially for those who love a little horror twist to their holiday spirit.
You can see Christmas at the Kringles on October 30 when it arrives in theaters. Check out our exclusive sneak peek above and stay tuned at Collider for more.
