Right now is the perfect time to invest in Ryan Gosling stock, especially after he starred in one of the biggest sci-fi movies of the year with Project Hail Mary. Back in 2023, Gosling also teamed up with Margot Robbie for the $1 billion-grossing blockbuster, Barbie, and while there have been talks of a sequel, nothing concrete has been announced yet. Gosling is returning to the world of franchise and blockbuster filmmaking next year when he stars in the new Star Wars movie, Starfighter, hailing from director Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine). That same duo is also reuniting in 2028 to deliver the MCU’s first Ghost Rider movie, but little else is known about the project at this time. Gosling is becoming one of the most bankable action stars in the world, as evidenced by his box office and streaming success.
Ryan Gosling has starred in a number of successful blockbusters in the last few years, but one of his unexpected flops is finally finding new life on streaming. Back in 2024, only one year after he starred in Barbie, Gosling teamed up with Emily Blunt for the big-budget action blockbuster, The Fall Guy, which cost around $130 million to make. This left the film with an estimated break-even point of around $275 million, but it managed to only scramble out of theaters with a $181 million cumulative haul, meaning it lost close to $100 million. Not over two years removed from The Fall Guy’s run in theaters, the film is finding an audience on streaming, where it’s become one of the most popular VOD rentals and purchases on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV around the world.
What Is ‘The Fall Guy’ About?
The official synopsis for The Fall Guy, which holds scores of 81% from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows: “He's a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life (Blunt) while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?” The Fall Guy was directed by David Leitch, who is also famous for his work on other action blockbusters like Bullet Train and Hobbs & Shaw. The film is a perfect mash-up of John Wick and Gosling's own The Nice Guys, perfect for fans of great action blockbusters with plenty of jokes between the intense scenes.
