‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’ Officially Returns With an All-New 4K Remaster [Exclusive]

18 years ago, Repo! The Genetic Opera blended horror with comedy and musical theater, creating a cult classic that still endures. Now, it's coming to 4K Blu-ray in a new Steelbook set from Lionsgate crammed full of special features like a rib cage stuffed with donor organs. Collider is proud to exclusively present a preview sneak peek from the feature-length behind-the-scenes documentary included with the set.

Repo! The Genetic Opera, based on the 2002 stage musical of the same name, is set in 2056, when organ failure is rampant and evil corporation GeneCo provides replacements...for a price. Miss a payment, and you'll be getting a deadly visit from one of the company's Repo Men. The film concerns GeneCo CEO Rotti Largo (Paul Sorvino, Goodfellas); he's dying, and his nasty brood of children (including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2's Bill Moseley, The Doom Generation's Nivek Ogre, and House of Wax's Paris Hilton) are already scheming about how to lay claim to his fortune. Too bad for them, he's planning to give it all to Shilo Wallace (Alexa Vega, Spy Kids), the sickly daughter of GeneCo's head Repo Man (Anthony Stewart Head, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

In the new clip from "The Anatomy of a Cult," we see behind-the-scenes footage from the movie's final shot, with cast and crew celebrating the end of production. It wasn't much of a celebration for veteran horror director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III, IV, and Spiral: From the Book of Saw). As revealed in his commentary, at the time he was wondering if he'd peaked and would ever reach these heights again. It was especially challenging because he'd spent so much time trying to keep the movie running, and wasn't able to appreciate what he and the crew had created while it was happening.

The set features an all-new 4K remaster approved by director Darren Lynn Bousman. It also includes a new audio commentary with Bousman and co-creators Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich and "Addicted to the Shadowcast," another featurette. Legacy special features include a cast and crew commentary, commentary on select scenes and deleted scenes with Bousman and Paris Hilton, video singalongs, trailers, posters, and more.
