Queen of modern sci-fi, Rebecca Ferguson, has been living up to her reputation this year. She began 2026 with the mystery movie Mercy, in which she plays an AI-powered judge. She followed it up with the third season of Apple TV's Silo, which received a 96% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. In December, Ferguson will reprise her role as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Three, the third and final installment of Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed trilogy. Fans who are interested in Ferguson's other sci-fi work are in luck, because one of her most underrated cult favorites is currently streaming for free in the United States. However, the movie is about to be removed from its streaming home soon.

The film was released in 2017 and directed by Daniel Espinosa, the filmmaker behind the thrillers Safe House and Child 44. It was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who, mere months prior, had delivered the blockbuster film Deadpool. In fact, the 2017 sci-fi movie also featured Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, along with Jake Gyllenhaal and Hiroyuki Sanada. It was produced by the current top brass of the combined Skydance Corporation, but it was distributed by Sony, which led to amusing rumors of it being a Venom prequel. Of course, it wasn't connected to that Tom Hardy-led series in any way, although it did owe a massive creative debt to Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic Alien.
