Prime Video has the perfect Halloween binge for fans of psychological survival horror, and it is quietly trending four years after its premiere. The movie follows a trauma survivor recovering from an abusive relationship, who joins a therapy group on a weekend retreat in the Rocky Mountains, only to be hunted by a terrifying, unseen presence in the wilderness.
Written and directed by Berkley Brady in her directorial debut, the sleeper hit premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in 2022 and then received a limited theatrical release across North America on May 19, 2023, followed by a VOD release four days later. Now, the horror film is gaining popularity on Prime Video as subscribers flock to stream ahead of Halloween, thereby contributing to it ranking among the ten most-watched titles overall this past week on the streamer. U.S. subscribers also appear to approve of the movie as it has consistently been the seventh most-watched show on Prime Video for more than five days and counting.
Aptly described as The Ritual meets The Invisible Man, Dark Nature is the Prime Video sleeper hit you need for Halloween. The Canadian film perfectly blends the isolated, monster-in-the-woods survival horror of The Ritual with the paranoia and domestic trauma of The Invisible Man. It holds a 72% critics’ rating from 18 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with some praising Brady’s direction and the strong female ensemble, featuring Hannah Emily Anderson, Helen Belay, Madison Walsh, Roseanne Supernault and Kyra Harper.
What Else Can You Watch on Prime Video for Halloween?
Prime Video offers a wide range of titles to choose from this Halloween, from classics to modern cult favorites, some of which found their way to the platform at the start of October. Currently trending is Mike Flanagan’s Carrie, which premiered on October 7 and will have you quickly binging through its eight captivating episodes. Also among the exciting horror titles are the 1992 supernatural film Candyman; Hereditary, starring Toni Collette, which is undoubtedly one of the greatest horror films of this century; the 2019 folk horror masterpiece Midsommar, starring Florence Pugh; the 2022 psychological slasher Pearl, starring Mia Goth; and the 1982 sci-fi horror cult classic The Thing.
