New Survival Sci-Fi Movie Officially Named Highest-Rated Video Game Adaptation of All Time

The last few years have come up all Zach Cregger after Weapons made history at the Oscars, but his new movie coming to theaters this weekend is already breaking records. Cregger first arrived on the scene back in 2022 with his work on Barbarian, the hit horror thriller starring Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long. After the film grossed over $46 million at the box office against a $5 million budget, Cregger took a few years off before returning to the big screen in 2025 for the aforementioned Weapons, starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner. Cregger also guided Amy Madigan to the strongest performance of her career, and she shocked the world by winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor earlier this year at the Academy Awards — horror is often left out of the ceremony.

Cregger's Resident Evil movie got off to a hot start earlier this week when the review embargo was lifted and the film debuted to a strong 96% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. This is high enough to make it one of the highest-rated video game adaptations of all time, up there with the first season of The Last of Us and the second season of Fallout on Prime Video.
