The last year has been particularly exciting for fans of World War II-inspired storytelling, with a string of acclaimed movies and an in-depth documentary receiving high praise from audiences. The streak is set to continue this month with a major new WWII movie that's notable for more reasons than one. The movie comes on the heels of the successful titles Nuremberg, which debuted theatrically this time last year and grossed a handsome $70 million globally; Pressure, which holds a terrific 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes; and the History Channel documentary series World War II with Tom Hanks, which took the top spot on iTunes for several weeks during its 20-episode run.

The upcoming movie is notable for being the first real attempt by Netflix at a theatrical release, ahead of the hotly anticipated The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth and next year's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew. This time, Netflix will report box-office results, after third parties reported on the box-office performance of past Netflix titles such as Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Marriage Story, and The Irishman. The upcoming WWII movie was directed by Peter Berg, who previously worked with the streamer on the action-comedy film Spenser Confidential and the Western limited series American Primeval.
