Netflix is marking the tenth anniversary of this beloved fantasy series with a disappointing update, and fans won't be thrilled. Created by Michael Schur, the afterlife sitcom premiered on September 19, 2016, and earned critical praise throughout its run until it ended on January 30, 2020. This isn't surprising, as the show stood out from many sitcoms by not overextending its storyline; instead, it wrapped up after four seasons and 53 episodes, delivering complete, satisfying character arcs while also featuring some of the most unexpected plot twists.

Currently, the series holds a near-perfect 97% average critics' score and a 90% audience score, with Seasons 2 and 4 boasting impressive 100% critical scores on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned 14 Emmy nominations, including two for Outstanding Comedy Series for its third and fourth seasons, as well as three consecutive Saturn Award nominations for Best Fantasy Television Series. These successes continued on streaming, particularly on Netflix, where it amassed about 371.9M viewing hours across its four seasons from 2023 through mid-2023.

That brilliant series is The Good Place, and all four seasons are scheduled to leave Netflix internationally on September 25, 2026, per What's on Netflix. The removal covers territories where Netflix carried the NBCUniversal production under its Netflix Original branding through an exclusive international distribution agreement. Despite that familiar label, Netflix never owned the program, so its availability always depended on a licensing arrangement with NBCUniversal. North American viewers faced this change earlier because the fantasy-comedy departed Netflix in those markets in 2025.

'The Good Place' Is Worth Watching More Than Once

The Good Place begins with Eleanor Shellstrop, played by Kristen Bell, waking up in a heavenly neighborhood, relieved and surprised to have made it there. She eventually realizes she was admitted by mistake, so she hides in plain sight from the Good Place's architect, Michael (Ted Danson), and his all-knowing assistant, Janet (D'Arcy Carden). Eleanor then turns to anxious ethics professor Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper), who, alongside Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto), helps her realize that it's never too late to change. With the help of her new friends and a few enemies, Eleanor becomes determined to shed her old way of life in hopes of discovering a new one in the afterlife.

The Good Place leaves Netflix internationally next week. Stick with Collider for the latest streaming news.
