Announced during the Minecraft Live event in March 2026, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will open up a rift into a new dimension on September 29. The sequel to the wildly popular Minecraft Dungeons will take players through rifts that are opening up on the Overworld to a new place called the Sift.
With Minecraft Dungeons 2, Mojang Studios has made a few changes from the previous installment. Getting around in Dungeons 2 is different, for one. Rather than a series of levels and missions to a quest location, as in Minecraft Dungeons 1, the Sift is a world with interconnected regions that players can move through seamlessly. Each region includes quests, narrative events, settlements, caves, and other points of interest, and fast-travel hubs. Dungeons 2, like its predecessor, is all about being an adventuring hero, so naturally there will be lots of side quests found throughout the world as well as a main narrative arc to follow.
Additionally, Dungeons 2 brings some gear changes with it. Previously, armor had one equipment slot, but Dungeons 2 expands that to four, adding slots for helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots. A new category altogether, talismans allow players to further customize their builds with passive bonuses, and items found in Sift now possess a random effect. More enchantments and enchantment books will be introduced with the expansion.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 introduces matchmaking and party codes so that players (and fruit-fly consciousnesses) can find each other and team up. Furthermore, Minecraft players will now be able to jump in addition to dodge-rolling, which means that players can perform jump attacks and better navigate the world.
Mojang is offering a pre-order bonus for Dungeons 2, which includes two hero skins, the twisted cape, and the twisted chicken pet.
Later, on October 27, Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
