Mahershala Ali Officially Moves On From Marvel's Cancelled 'Blade' Movie

Two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali reiterated that he has officially moved on from the Blade movie at Marvel Studios, after expressing frustration about how the project was handled. Ali, promoting his new movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, added with a hint of sarcasm that he's grateful to Marvel because the studio indirectly funded the upcoming project. He was still attached to Blade when he met director Bassam Tariq; they came up with their new original movie during that time. It was also during the development for Blade that Ali was sent to undergo training for the lead role, which ended up coming in handy for his new movie with Tariq.

In an interview with Deadline, Ali said that he is "over" Blade, a project that he was attached to for a number of years. He was introduced at the San Diego Comic Con by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who recently said that the cancellation of Blade has been one of his biggest regrets. Ali, on the other hand, said in a GQ profile, "I have moved on. I'm good. You had me under contract. If they wanted to do the movie, we would have done the movie. So we're not doing the movie. They didn't want to do it, so they should answer that question."
