Protecting the President of the United States within the White House itself has been done before with films like White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen. This time, armed hostiles are attempting to overthrow the country, the Commander-in-Chief is on the run, and his best chance of survival is one incredibly tricked-out car. Or, to be more specific, a heavily armored limousine with a few classified upgrades hidden under the hood. Somewhere, Mike Banning is probably furious he never got one of these.
Joel Kinnaman (For All Mankind) and Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) are officially heading into The Beast, a new action thriller from Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) which will arrive in theaters on October 9. The latest trailer, which is an absolute riot, has dropped, and it's setting up a presidential thriller that looks right at home alongside movies like Olympus Has Fallen — only this time, the action isn’t confined to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
When unidentified hostiles coordinate a coup against the United States, the president uncovers the extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities. Separated from his wife, the president must learn to control The Beast — and the monster inside himself — to save his life, Secret Service agent Taft (Kinnaman), and the country.
Who Stars in 'The Beast'?
Kinnaman and Jackson lead the movie alongside Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer), with Harlin behind the camera, and he certainly knows his way around this particular flavor of action movie, having previously directed Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, and The Long Kiss Goodnight. So you know this is going to be immensely fun. Kinnaman has also been spending plenty of time rocking around in the world of action lately. Earlier this year, he starred in Prime Video’s Icefall, while his action résumé already includes The Suicide Squad, RoboCop, Silent Night, and The Silent Hour. He also starred as Takeshi Kovacs in Netflix’s Altered Carbon and played Rick Flag across two Suicide Squad movies. He also just wrapped five seasons on Apple's For All Mankind.
Do we need to introduce Jackson? We suspect not, but after this, he will next be seen in Taylor Sheridan's Frisco King, a follow-up series to Tulsa King. And we wouldn't be overly surprised to see him turn up in some form in Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, which will be released in theaters on December 18. After all, we haven't seen Nick Fury for a while.
