Jim Henson is one of our great creators. The man behind The Muppet Show brought so much joy to audiences who fell in love with his puppetry and one of his most beloved films was the 1986 movie Labyrinth. Starring David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King with a young Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, the movie told the tale of a young girl wishing her brother would be taken by the goblins, and it brought Henson's puppets to life. To celebrate what would have been Henson's 90th birthday, fans can now buy a mask inspired by Ludo himself!
“Labyrinth is one of those films that has only become more beloved with time, and Ludo represents so much of what makes the film special,” said Joshua Viola, Bit Bot co-owner. “There’s something immediately endearing about him, but he’s also an incredible example of the creature artistry that defined Jim Henson’s work. We wanted to create something that feels faithful to the character and gives fans a chance to have a little piece of that magic in their own collection.”
Ludo is the beloved creature that Sarah and her friends find within the labyrinth of Jareth the Goblin King. And having a mask of him is an ideal treat for every Labyrinth fan. The mask is "sculpted and hand-painted" by Oktober Studios and is designed for fans to wear the mask or display it as a collectible. There are only 250 pieces available of the mask and each purchase includes a collectible art print of Ludo by Walter Pax. The latex mask is set to retail for $175 and will be available this fall but is available for pre-order now at the Bit Bot store.
'Labyrinth' Remains a Fan Favorite
Part of what made Labyrinth stand on its own outside of Henson's work with the Muppets came down to the music of the film. Bowie, who had been in a movie beforehand, was mostly known for his music. And the actor and singer wrote songs like "Underground" and "As the World Falls Down" for the film. But it was the performance of "Magic Dance" that is still sung to this day, with Bowie and the baby Toby (Toby Froud) in a scene with all goblin puppets. From Hoggle (Brian Henson) joining Sarah's team to falling in love with Ludo himself, the film is truly a classic.
You can pre-order your own Ludo mask now.
