After two full weeks of release, a poorly received horror movie starring Jessica Chastain looks set to pass the coveted $100 million mark at the global box office. The movie delivered a strong opening weekend haul, despite being roundly panned by critics. This past weekend, it hit what could be its final major domestic box-office milestone, after being removed from 500 theaters and facing fresh competition from DC's Clayface. Chastain has a solid track record in the horror genre, having starred in films such as Mama and It: Chapter Two. Her new movie hasn't turned out to be quite as successful as those films, but will likely find a larger audience when it hits the PVOD market.
Directed by Rob Savage, the film retained a top-10 spot this past weekend, while Clayface debuted at number one with $24 million. Incidentally, Chastain's movie opened to $27 million, even though it doesn't have a massive franchise to rely on and has attracted vicious reviews. Savage broke out with the pandemic-era hits Host and Dashcam, and made his Hollywood debut with The Boogeyman, which grossed more than $80 million worldwide. His new film has overtaken The Boogeyman in under three weeks of release, but will probably struggle to match the $148 million lifetime haul of Chastain's Mama, which was released in 2013.
Here's How Much the Movie Has Grossed at the Box Office So Far
We're talking, of course, about Other Mommy. Produced on a reported budget of less than $20 million, the film has grossed $50 million domestically and $95 million worldwide. On the overall 2026 box-office chart, the film has out-grossed fellow horror releases such as Evil Dead Burn, Lee Cronin's The Mummy, and Send Help. It holds a 20% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, "Despite a valiant turn from Jessica Chastain as the spectral embodiment of a smothering parent, Other Mommy proves too silly for its intermittently effective jump scares to add up to a spooky whole." In its third weekend, Other Mommy's domestic theater count was reduced from around 3,300 to around 2,800.
