Jason Statham's Biggest Action Hit Officially Scores a Brand-New Streaming Home

Jason Statham is the most dependable and reliable action star of our generation. Every year, a new Statham action movie comes out, and it delivers exactly what we want: a one-man army, a few quips, some cannon fodder bad guys, and the good guy winning in the end. Sometimes, though, these films hit a bit differently and are elevated because something about them is just better than the norm. In 2024, Statham took on what could have been a silly film with David Ayer, but it became something much bigger. Now, a new audience can see it.

More than two years after becoming a surprise theatrical hit, The Beekeeper has officially found a new streaming home on Peacock. The film features Statham as Adam Clay, a deadly ex-operative of a secret government agency called — you guessed it — the Beekeepers. After a cybercrime ring drives his friend to suicide, Clay launches a relentless, violent crusade for justice. Ayer reportedly brought in a retired FBI agent to consult on the movie’s structure and procedural aspects. Meanwhile, Statham, ever the committed performer, took the time to learn about beekeeping and trained hard for the film’s most demanding stunts — most of which he performed himself.

The cast is led by Statham as Adam Clay, alongside Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy) as FBI Agent Verona Parker, Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) as Derek Danforth, Bobby Naderi (Bright) as Matt Wiley, Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) as Janet Harward, Phylicia Rashad (Creed) as Eloise Parker, Jemma Redgrave (Doctor Who) as President Danforth, and Jeremy Irons (Watchmen) as Wallace Westwyld.

Was 'The Beekeeper' Successful?

The movie was well received, and it currently has a 71% critics' score and a "Verified Hot" 92% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, "Cheerfully undemanding and enjoyably retrograde, The Beekeeper proves that when it comes to dispensing action-thriller justice, Statham hasn't lost his sting." That enthusiasm translated into ticket sales. Produced for a reported $40 million, The Beekeeper earned approximately $162 million worldwide, making it a substantial commercial success and eventually leading to development of a sequel.

The sequel, The Beekeeper 2, will be released in January 2027, and will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, with Ayer instead opting to move on to Heart of the Beast. Meanwhile, Statham's Shelter is continuing to redeem itself on streaming following a lackluster box-office run, and his latest release, Mutiny, is still playing in theaters.
