We're going to need a bigger Excel sheet to keep track of everything Guy Ritchie's up to. The filmmaker has already released one theatrical film this year, and in September alone, he saw two major streaming shows return with hotly anticipated second seasons. Both shows are doing incredibly well, as is his 2026 action thriller In the Grey. Meanwhile, several of his earlier projects are also witnessing viewership spikes, making Ritchie one of the most popular creators on the global streaming charts. He should be accustomed to this kind of success by now, given how popular his work is on home video. But the irony is that Ritchie hasn't delivered a box-office hit since 2019. Now, one of his biggest theatrical misfires is ruling the Netflix charts, two years after its initial release.
The movie in question debuted theatrically in 2024 and grossed around $30 million worldwide against a reported budget of $60 million. By comparison, In the Grey made $23 million globally against a reported budget of $70 million, while The Covenant grossed around $22 million against a reported budget of $55 million. Ritchie's 2024 title, a World War II-era action-thriller inspired by real events, appeared to be his attempt at creating a film similar to Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. The movie received mixed-to-positive reviews, and has more than redeemed itself following its theatrical underperformance.
