Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is out on Netflix. The standalone sequel to the first Edgerunners anime from 2022, both seasons are connected to CD Projekt Red's RPG Cyberpunk 2077. To celebrate the new anime's release, CDPR has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a new update this week.
CD Projekt Red calls it the Edgerunners 2 Update, or Update 2.5, and according to a news release it will include "content inspired by the anime." Also on the way are "a range of other new items and features."
That is all CD Projekt Red has shared so far. The publisher will host a livestream on Wednesday at 11 a.m. EDT detailing what the update entails. The stream can be watched on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam. Or skip the stream and go into the new update blind. Your call.
The Edgerunners 2 Update will be released on Oct. 22 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, while the update for the Nintendo Switch 2 version will "follow shortly."
What is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 about?
Like Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set in the futuristic Night City, where gang violence and body modification run rampant. Season 1 followed the rise and fall of David Martinez, undone by an excess of cybernetic implants. Season 2 follows a new cast trying to survive in the chaos of Night City. "With the intertwining stories of a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent, and a Snake Nation netrunner, the series tells a raw and emotional tale of vengeance and redemption," the news release says.
Polygon's Ryan Epps saw the first episode over the summer at Anime Expo and enjoyed it. "Packed with incredible colors, gorgeous framing, and punchy sound design, Edgerunners 2 is a fresh take on a beloved world," he wrote.
