Brendan Fraser's 'Mummy' Sequel Reveals First Look at Oded Fehr's Return as Ardeth Bay

It's been more than 25 years since Brendan Fraser (The Whale) and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) first battled the resurrected Imhotep in The Mummy, but hey, nostalgia's all the rage these days and Universal is getting the band back together. Fraser and Weisz are officially returning as Rick and Evelyn O'Connell for the next instalment of the history/thriller/action series, and we just got one step closer to seeing it.

Oded Fehr (Resident Evil) has shared a first look at his return as Ardeth Bay in the upcoming The Mummy sequel. Fehr posted a video that begins with footage of Ardeth from the 1999 movie before transitioning to a present-day shot of the actor on set, so we now know that he's coming back for more as well.

Fehr played Ardeth in both The Mummy and 2001's The Mummy Returns. The character is the leader of the Medjai, an ancient group dedicated to preventing Imhotep's resurrection and protecting the world from the supernatural threat he represents. Ardeth initially butts heads with Rick and Evelyn before becoming one of their most important allies, helping them defeat Imhotep in both movies.

Who Stars in 'The Mummy 4'?

Fehr will star alongside Fraser and Weisz, who, as noted, will be reprising their roles as Rick and Evelyn, respectively. John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral) is also returning as Evelyn's brother, Jonathan Carnahan. Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Ready or Not) and Tyler Gillett (Scream) are directing from a screenplay by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill). Plot details remain firmly under wraps, but it'll probably involve excavating, archaeology, and the supernatural.

The original Mummy (well, not original because they've made this story a lot) became a major hit in 1999, earning more than $400 million worldwide and spawning The Mummy Returns. Fraser later returned for 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, but Weisz did not, with Maria Bello taking over the role of Evelyn. The franchise was subsequently rebooted with Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe in 2017 before Universal eventually turned its attention back to Fraser's incarnation. And we're all very grateful to them for doing that.

The Mummy sequel will be released in theaters on October 15, 2027.
