Any successful spooky season box office needs the bite of a zombie. This year, the flesh-eating highlight came from director Zach Cregger, who looked to continue his impressive early directorial run after his 2025 sensation, Weapons, won an Academy Award. His latest movie, a reboot of the popular video game Resident Evil, has been met with similar high praise, including from Collider's Carly Lane, who said that "when Resident Evil works, it really works."
The movie may have just been removed from 900 theaters, igniting the beginning of the end of its big-screen run, but Resident Evil has already found success. Against a reported $75 million production budget, the video game adaptation has scored a huge $362 million in global revenue, which puts it almost $100 million ahead of Weapons. But if you've missed your chance to catch this Halloween's best zombie movie on the big screen, you could join the rest of the world in watching another zombie favorite on streaming.
At the time of writing, Brad Pitt's World War Z is one of the ten most-watched movies on Paramount+ in the world. The film marked Pitt's highest-grossing movie of his career at the time, a record which stood until last year, with a global haul of more than $540 million. Still the highest-grossing zombie movie ever, there's no doubting World War Z's impact on the genre, even if it faced mixed reviews when it first debuted. James Badge Dale, Mireille Enos, and Daniella Kertesz also star.
What Is Brad Pitt Making Next?
Following his 2025 Oscar-winning blockbuster F1 and the recent quiet box office hit Heart of the Beast, Pitt is returning to one of his best modern characters to round out a relatively low-key 2026. Released exclusively in IMAX on November 25, before moving to Netflix on December 23, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth sees Pitt reprise his war veteran stunt double after picking up the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 masterpiece Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Tarantino has stepped away from the camera for this standalone sequel, instead writing the script, which is being brought to life by long-time Pitt collaborator David Fincher.
