As if September hadn't already over-delivered for director Guy Ritchie's fans, they were also treated to the first teaser for his upcoming movie Wife and Dog. Ritchie is in the middle of a particularly prolific phase right now, having debuted the second season of his hit Netflix series The Gentlemen on September 3. This week also saw the grand return of his blockbuster Paramount+ crime drama series MobLand. As if two shows weren't enough, Ritchie's theatrical release for the year, In the Grey, continues to redeem itself on streaming after a lackluster box-office run, finding spots on the Prime Video and HBO Max viewership charts. While all these titles continue to draw audiences at home, Ritchie is gearing up for the release of Wife and Dog, which features Benedict Cumberbatch in an against-type role.
The teaser does exactly what it should: it sets up the film's tone, its premise, and highlights the excellent cast that Ritchie has rounded up. Aside from Cumberbatch, the film also features Anthony Hopkins, Rosamund Pike, and Paddy Considine. Fans will know that the filmmaker has worked with Considine on MobLand, and with Pike on In the Grey. This is, however, his first time working with Cumberbatch, best known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the BBC's critically acclaimed contemporary re-imagining. Ritchie, of course, is well-versed in Sherlock lore, having helmed two feature films based on the classic stories, in addition to executive-producing a Young Sherlock series for Prime Video.
