Avengers Films Trend on Disney+ as MCU Builds Toward ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Later this year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will release its biggest superhero gathering yet. Robert Downey Jr. returns—this time as Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man—with Anthony and Joe Russo directing Avengers: Doomsday, which promises a new beginning for the universe. The studio has gone to great lengths to win back its loyal fanbase, which has felt somewhat distant in the post-Avengers: Endgame era.

Downey Jr.’s fellow Avengers are also returning at one point, but this time they will face the man behind the mask. Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and more are joining the fight. Also in the mix: Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, God of Stories; the newly minted New Avengers from Thunderbolts*; and The Fantastic Four, including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

And the X-Men are there too. A whole generation of children grew up on 20th Century’s X-Men movies and needs closure before a new batch of mutants can take over. The trailer shows the X-Mansion and a large battle, with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique and others returning for one last stand.

Avengers: Doomsday is expected to reboot the universe to make way for the new mutants and continue the stories of some favorite characters. The trailers have hinted at incursion events across the multiverse, which might have begun because the Avengers brought everyone back in Endgame. Over the years, MCU fans have developed the habit of doing their homework—rewatching movies or shows tied to the upcoming feature—and they seem to be preparing well in advance for Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers Assemble on Disney+ Charts

The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are all trending globally on Disney+, according to FlixPatrol. The franchise is holding strong alongside newer films such as The Mandalorian and Grogu, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Psycho Killer and more. The Avengers movies have been a cornerstone of the fandom and are celebrated worldwide as a movie event. Before Doomsday, Marvel is bringing another movie event with the release of Avengers: Endgame Encore, giving fans another chance to revisit the film on the big screen and see brand-new footage that ties into the upcoming adventure.
